ERFS Certificate for Visa Application

(Certificate of Completion of Registration to the ERFS Sytem)

From the beginning of this year, visa issuance had been suspended at Japan Embassies and Consulates all over the world in general. You can now apply for your visa (except for tourist visa) at Japan Embassy or Consulate after Certificate of Completion of Registration to the ERFS Sytem (called Uketsukezumisho in Japanese) is issued by Ministry of Heath, Labour and Welfare.

First, you will need to find a visa sponsor, who will apply for an ID for online ERFS Sytem. After the password is issued in a day or two, you will be able to apply for the Certificate. You will be able to apply for your visa at Japan Embassy or Consulate in your country with this certificate.

As for the other required documents, it is best to ask the local Japan Embassy or Consuate directly as it depends on each country. For example in Taiwan, you can now apply for temporary business visa as long as you have the Certificate and visa application form. Other documents such as itineary or letter of guaranntee are basically not required anymore in Taiwan. However, itneary and other documents are still required in other countries such as Korea.
